Sticks & Stones was initiated and funded by Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli as part of a county-wide focus on raising awareness and increasing education about computer-related crime. This film focuses on an increasing social epidemic in America’s High Schools – Cyberbullying.
Having to deal with bullies has always been an unfortunate, but natural part of growing up. However, in recent years bullying has shifted to the Internet. In chat rooms, over Instant Messenger, and through text messaging – bullies can bombard victims with an electronic assault while remaining faceless. Sometimes the bullying becomes so severe that the victim feels they have absolutely no way out.
Sticks & Stones will be distributed to Northern New Jersey High Schools as part of the BCPO’s ongoing educational film series. The film will be accompanied by a comprehensive Teacher’s Guide that provides educators and law enforcement tools for helping teenagers process the story and offers extensive suggestions for stimulating positive group discussion and promoting further student awareness.
